Intro to Yoga Basics

Briggs Community YMCA
2/2/26 - 2/25/26
VIEW

Learning yoga for the first time can be exciting and a little intimidating—that’s normal. You’ll be supported every step of the way as you explore new movements & build awareness of your breath There’s no need to be flexible or to know all the poses—come with curiosity, an open mind, and a willingness to connect with your body in a new way.

Yoga is more than just stretching—it can help improve posture, increase flexibility, build strength, and support balance. It teaches you how to breathe with intention and move with awareness, helping to reduce stress and increase focus. A regular yoga practice can ease physical tension, calm the nervous system, and create space—physically and mentally—for more ease in daily life. Whether you’re here for your physical health, emotional well-being, or both, yoga offers lifelong tools to support your whole self.

This series is designed to introduce you to the foundational elements of yoga in a welcoming, non-competitive environment. Whether you are brand new to yoga or looking to refresh your practice, this series will provide the tools you need to feel confident in any yoga class.

Each week, you’ll build upon what you’ve learned, developing strength, balance, and awareness while exploring essential yoga postures, breathwork, and relaxation techniques.

TRX Suspension Training

Plum Street YMCA
1/6/26 - 1/29/26
VIEW

TRX suspension training is an innovative exercise involving a system of straps, buckles, and webbing, known as a suspension trainer. The system allows you to work against your body weight and gravity to create resistance. TRX suspension training can strengthen your core, build stability, increase flexibility, and improve balance by targeting any muscle group or skill level. It is ideal for athletes, military personnel, and anyone looking for a mobile, challenging, and rewarding workout.

The TRX system allows you to work against gravity by using your body weight as resistance. You can adjust the difficulty of an exercise by changing the angle of your body relative to the ground, making it easier or harder depending on the activity. This provides a versatile form of training that you can tailor to your fitness level.

The straps are versatile and can be attached to different anchor points such as a wall, door, tree, or any stable piece of equipment. This allows you to do hundreds of other exercises from the comfort of your own home. Increasing or decreasing the angle can make the same exercise more challenging or easier, depending on your fitness level.

In addition to being a great way to improve your strength and mobility, TRX suspension training also helps develop balance and coordination. This makes it an effective way to reduce the risk of injury during other types of physical activity.
