Build a Bed- Work Party- Volunteer

Shelton Family YMCA
5/20/26 - 5/20/26
VIEW

Build‑a‑Bed Work Party

Wednesday, May 20 | 9:00 AM – until the work is done (or dawn)

Join Mason County Climate Justice and the Y for a hands-on Build‑a‑Bed Work Party, a community volunteer work day focused on preparing and improving the community garden space while building durable garden beds to support local food production.

Volunteers will work together to clear and clean the garden area, move dirt and materials, prepare the ground, and assemble and place raised garden beds. This is a true work party—collaborative, practical, and rewarding. Whether you’re experienced with physical labor or just willing to pitch in, your help will make a meaningful difference.

We’ll start promptly at 9:00 AM and continue until the work is done (or dawn, whichever comes first). Tasks will be available for a range of abilities, and on‑site guidance will be provided throughout the day. This effort will leave a lasting impact by creating functional, ready‑to‑use garden spaces for growing food and strengthening community resilience.

What to expect:

  • Outdoor volunteer work in a team setting
  • Clearing, cleaning, and preparing the community garden space
  • Moving soil and materials
  • Building and placing raised garden beds
  • A productive, community‑driven atmosphere

What to bring:

  • Work clothes you don’t mind getting dirty
  • Closed‑toe shoes
  • Gloves (if you have them)
  • Water and personal snacks

Come for an hour or stay for the full work party—every contribution helps move the project forward. Together, we’ll transform the space and build something that will grow long after the day is don

Steps That Strengthen Community

**FREE COMMUNITY HIKES. OPEN TO ALL.**

We’ve Come a Long Way—And We’re Just Getting Started

The Hiking Project, in partnership with Mason Transit Authority, is building community through accessible, family-friendly hikes.

Our mission is simple: help families unplug from screens, reconnect with nature, and feel confident exploring the outdoors together. Inspired by Forest Therapy and guided by our motto, “Hike Your Own Hike,” we focus on slowing down, breathing deep, and enjoying the journey—at every pace.

We’re thrilled to launch the 2026 Hiking Expedition — and we’re adding a fun twist!

Pick up a punch card at the Shelton Family YMCA, join the hikes, and collect stamps to earn a backpack full of goodies. Watch for mystery scavenger hunt stamps and surprise prizes all year long.

Sign up today, grab your stamp card, and hike along with us—or get involved as a volunteer and share your ideas!
