Briggs: Tai Ji Quan - Moving For Better Balance Part A (Beginner Class)
This is a 12-week evidence-based group exercise program. The program, based on the principles of Tai Chi, is led by a qualified Instructor and teaches eight movements modified especially for falls prevention.
The program works to improve balance, muscle strength, flexibility, and mobility to enhance overall physical health, which leads to better functioning in daily activities. Participation in the program may also result in better mental health, reduced stress, improved memory and cognition, and increased self-esteem.

Cooking Basics: Healthy, Balanced Meals in 30 Minutes or Less
Learn how to create nutritious, delicious meals without spending hours in the kitchen. This hands-on workshop focuses on simple techniques and time-saving strategies to help you prepare balanced meals with confidence, even on busy days.
Participants will learn essential cooking methods such as sautéing, steaming, broiling, baking, poaching, and slow cooking. We’ll also practice roasting flavorful sheet‑pan vegetables and preparing quick, versatile side dishes that pair easily with any meal.
Perfect for beginners or anyone looking to refresh their skills, this workshop will give you practical tools to make healthy eating easier, faster, and more enjoyable.
About Your Instructor:
Sharon is a Registered Dietitian and a Certified Diabetes Educator who has worked in the field of nutrition for over 25 years. She works at St. Peter Hospital in the diabetes clinic and the teen pregnancy clinic. At the Y, she has been the leader of our ACT program and has taught many cooking classes. She also works with members to develop a personalized nutrition plan that improves their health and fits their lifestyle.

Livestrong At The South Sound YMCA
- Focus: The program focuses on the whole person, not the disease.
- Goals: Participants work to:
- Build muscle mass and strength
- Increase flexibility and endurance
- Improve energy levels and self-esteem
- Reduce the severity of therapy side effects
- Develop supportive relationships
- Improve quality of life
- Build muscle mass and strength
- Instructors: Certified YMCA instructors are trained in cancer survivorship, post-rehabilitation exercise, and supportive cancer care. They follow American College of Sports Medicine and American Cancer Society exercise guidelines.
- Sessions: Participants meet twice a week for approximately 90 minutes.
- Community: Participants can build companionship, share stories, and be inspired.
